Botox
botox
I would like to ask for anecdotal evidence of Botox please.
We are getting it on the nhs....well some are.
But the results seem to be overblown. 50/60% reduction.
I know we are very slow here. But I would like to be able to make a balanced choice
Should they offer it to me
I am not sure it is quite the hit they say it is.
I know there are comments scattered over the forum.
But with no pc. I can't search that well.
Would anyone who has tried Botox be kind enough to just give their experience please?
Just now much it helped.
Was it worth it.
Any negative effects.
Thank you

Re: botox
If I was offered it I'd go for it, but it's never come up as it wasn't available before (it wasn't an option on the poll so I figured I'd say it anyway).

Re: botox
I'm sorry nat. I have tried 3 times to add that option to the poll
I have no pc and doing everything on phone or iPad is not ideal
Thanks for posting.
I don't have the offer. But should it come along.

Re: botox
Pen, if I had migraines as frequently as you do, I would definitely be giving it a go.
Is there anything to lose? (I'm not being arsey with that question, I'm being serious )

Re: botox
Only thing to lose as far as I can discern is extra pain witsy.
Some poor people have had about 6 weeks of extra hell when it didn't work and the shots have somehow given them more pain.
One lady ended up in rebound with all the meds she took to try to get out of pain. Another had dreadful neck pain and couldn't relieve it.
They don't all end up like that of course but it isn't as simple as it works or not for everyone.
I am torn. But my neuro isn't doing it. Having teased me with it 3 times now. He is training others !!!!

No Leslie. I never remove posts. I have said that all along. The only time I would ever do that would be if it was offensive in some way and even then I would contact the poster to let them know, and why.
If ever anyone loses a post, please know, if you havent heard from me, it is a glitch, and please repost.
Thanks
Please try again Leslie.
Thanks

Re: botox
Well, leave it to me to mess up your poll! I checked the three that applied to me: I have had it, It didn't help at all and I wouldn't have it again. I think it counted me as three votes but I'm not sure. So maybe I messed it up, but I'm not positive.
I had it from that plastic surgeon who does surgery for migraines but checks first with the botox. He only did three injections: in between my eyebrows, my temples, and the base of my skull.
It did nothing for me. I understand some docs do multiple injections all over the head and neck so that would be completely different. I had no adverse reaction to it, just no help.
Good luck - Cathy

Re: botox
I think it does work for some people and not for others depending on the source of their migraines. Given all the facial components of your migraines Pen, I wouldn't be surprised if it did work for you.

Re: botox
Mg. I don't have facial components of migraines. It's all head and neck. But what I have since Christmas is a sinus or tmj problem. They can't decide. They say it could exacerbate that. So I am just. It sure. Xx
Re: botox
Pen - I thought you had maybe some nerve damage from a dental procedure and maybe if that nerve was treated with botox it might chill out and not trigger your head and neck pain. Just something to consider.

Re: botox
Ah. Good thought leslie. I haven't had any dental work since jan 2000.
So hard to say. Neuro told a friend. 12 weeks before they decide who may qualify. So will have to see. Will mention that idea to him thanks. Xx

Re: botox
Just to catch up. I cant wait for the damn stuff to get out of my system.
Its given me daily migraine. Forcing me to take a,triptan everyday
It's pushed the tmj beyond copeable
And I have had dreadful neck and shoulder pain
Be very, careful. I asked if it could make me worse. I,was told no
I now know, this to be untrue.
If you have trigger points ,be even more, careful

Re: botox
Well if they are at least truthful about that. I have 3 weeks to go.
I have actually taken a look on line. Seems many people get side effects.
Mainly pain as I have. The lucky ones get past it in about 3 weeks.
Others have flu symptoms. Breathing problems. And even convulsions.
Most don't get these I imagine. But I am urging everyone to ask direct questions. And if told there are no effects. Probe further. It's not true.
Everyone should make up their mind as they do with Any meds.
Weigh up the pros and cons.
I don't appreciate being lied to. If told the truth. I would not have had it.
