Can anyone help me figure this please?
I am waking every morning in pain. Sometimes obvious migraine, other times not so clear.
Yesterday it wasnt migraines, and it was on the left my "other" side.
I gave in and took OTC when I couldnt stand it any longer.
I think they helped a little, but I resigned myself to another couch day.
Later it moved to the right, which is my usual side, and i coped better with it.
By bedtime, it still hurt, but down to about 4.
And so it goes around again...
This morning. It woke me, about 7am. Terrible in back of my head.
Hardly in the front and not in temples, just ripping at the back of my head and neck.
By 9am (after I had managed to doze a bit), it was also in my eyes.
I got ice an waited an hour.
I am up (on the couch) and it is a little better, and gone to the right.
It isnt so much in back of my head now...
BIG question. WTF is this?
WHY does it come in the night like this, and how can it sometimes improve on it's own?
When it wakes me it is at about 9, it makes me cry.
But now it is 6/7 and I didnt do anything....
Please if you have a clue....this particular pain ONLY occurs in the night.
I am desperate to find out and stop it. I have enough with the migraine.
My day seldom starts before 11, sometimes noon, because of this.
Thanks so much guys.

You've probably already thought of this but could it be your pillow or the position you sleep in putting pressure on your neck? I sleep with a tempurpedic cervical pillow and it make a huge difference in how my neck and head feel. I've had 4 whiplashes so keeping my neck in a good position is a necessity!

Hi Alli,
I have considered this, and so have used, to date 5 different pillows and none at all (awful). I was using a memory foam one, but since my jaw ceased up it is too hard on it. Now I am using two soft ones.
It could easily be something like that as my neck (no whiplashes) is always painful. But I am out of things to try.

Re: Can anyone help me figure this please?
I know you have pain in your jaw and face. Is it possible you clench your teeth at night? If so, there are mouth guards you can wear that help with this. Don't know, but it is something to check.
Idea two. Try sleeping more upright in a lounge chair. If your problem comes on due to pressure changes from being horizontal, you would at least find that out. My brother mainly sleeps in a chair now just to avoid the pain that laying on any pillow gives him. This is at least easy to do to see if it makes a difference.
If neither of those things work, then the only thing that is left is autonomic changes when you sleep. You would need a sleep study to sort that out. I know they haven't wanted to do that, so please try the first two things first. At least then you will know.
