Can anyone figure this one....weight loss??
I have had this sent through from several places now.
What do we make of it?
How many of us are obese anyway?

Re: Can anyone figure this one....weight loss??
IIH (Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension or high cerebral spinal fluid pressure) is found most often in overweight patients (and weight loss is supposed to help alleviate this disorder).
The headache associated with it is often diagnosed as migraine. So perhaps having the surgery (with some weight loss even though the patient may remain obese) is why they are finding the reduction of incidents of migraine headache in bariatric patients?

Didn't read the article but weight loss hasn't made an impact on my head. Mine came on as I was in the process of losing weight...which made it that much more fun.

uuuhhhmmmm....
these driven news based almost on nothing always leave me doubtful.
I also feel a little bit offended because migraine is underevaluated and considere a side effect of something else.
I know so many obese people who have never had a single h/a in their life and I know many migraine sufferers who are terribly skinny and who have worse migraines than me (I'm not skinny at all.....)

Quoting from the article:
"Nor did the study look at whether diet and exercise changes may have played a role in the results. Certain foods such as chocolate, caffeine and wine are common migraine triggers, as are stress and physical exertion.
I think that's the key. Most of us mention certain foods as triggers and cutting out the unhealthy foods can help the frequency and severity. I actually go through worse migraines when I eat less but it eventually resets itself. Bizarre.
And I am considered obese. I'm 5'10" and about 50 pounds overweight. I eat more when I have a migraine. Years ago, I ate less but now feel better when I eat more. The migs keep me from sticking to an exercise program.
Also, they mention 11 migs in 90 days. Sounds great to me!!! Around one a week. I'd take that in a heartbeat.

I think the weight gain is more of an effect from migraines rather than a cause of them. Between having no energy to exercise, spending a lot more time in bed with the headaches, and eating more due to meds or the headaches themselves in some cases, anyone would gain weight.

Re: Can anyone figure this one....weight loss??
I am overweight, but it has come with the fibro, and the lack of activity. I am wearing it all around my middle and if you look at a picture of me, you would never guess.
The only link I can make is that exercise is supposed to be good for migraines, and if you are overweight, maybe, like me, you are not getting enough of it. It might not be the weight, it might be the lifestyle.

Okay, more news on the weight.
It didnt give us migraines and losing it wont take them away, but being overweight can exacerbate it.
I think that is what it says.....
