Physical causes of head pain
As you all know, I have no family history of migraine, nor can I find any triggers.
BUT I cant go in the car any more, it triggers migraine type pain, the roads here are very bumpy.
Yesterday I stretched my neck to look at something, and I got a migraine like pain, instantly.
From my neck, up the back of my head and into my temple.
I have noticed this so many times, now I wonder how many of my migraines are true migraines?
Like when I wake up with one, is it because of something physical in the way I am sleeping.
I dont know.
But I would like to know how many of you get migraines, or similar pain induced physically.
I am not talking about exacerbation of pain, I am talking about as an actual trigger.
Please?

Re: Physical causes of head pain
The only physical triggers I have are sometimes from exercise and definitely if I hit my head hard on something.
For TN though, almost all the triggers for that lovely pain are physical. Too cold, too hot, a breeze, sometimes touching my face, eating anything crunchy, sometimes just eating, brushing my teeth, washing my face... you get the picture. it sucks.

Alli, I thought of you when I read this in our paper...
Have you heard of it?

Re: Physical causes of head pain
I'm not a good candidate for that surgery as I have Type II TN. I have a more constant pain along with the jabs and I'm bilateral. The success rate for Type II patients is so low they rarely will do the surgery and since they'd have to do both sides the risks are too much.
I sometimes feel like if I get something.... I get the worst case scenario.

Tell me about it....
In our paper it was billed as new and groundbreaking....
Re: Physical causes of head pain
Turning my head very much, or looking way up or down was always a surefire trigger for me. I would end up with a migraine within 20 minutes. That is why physical therapy never worked, it always made it much worse.
I bought new car in 2008 that has a rear backing camera so I dont have to look behind me to back out of the driveway. That really helped a lot. I also have a better muscle relaxant for my neck. So it's not as bad as it was, but I still have to be pretty careful with turning my head.

It might be new in the UK, but here it's been around for several years. I really considered it about 5 years ago but dual brain surgery with a very limited chance of success was not really an option.

Re: Physical causes of head pain
If we can ignore the actual doctors "selling" this, is anyone familiar with this procedure?

Re: Physical causes of head pain
I like working out with weights. It helps my overall health and my head and neck. But it is a 2-edged sword. If I don't warm up first with gentle stretches and use good form, I tug on my neck. That will cause a migraine.
I was a little too enthusiastic with my workout Tues and did not stretch first. I have been paying for it since. I had to take a Maxalt yesterday morning and this morning to be able to go to work. Will I ever learn? I hope so.
