Different types of migraines Empty Different types of migraines

Post by Jewishmother Mon Apr 18, 2011 1:18 am

I seem to have 2 distinct types of migraines. The ones I am used to and have had over 30 years are mostly made up of stroke-like aura symptoms that knock me out but over the past 5 months or so I have also experienced migraines without aura that are composed of only pain. These new ones are only triggered by weather changes. Anyone have more than 1 type of migraine? Just curious.........seeing my neuro tomorrow after a 2 year break from messing with the meds. Leslie

Oh yes!
Different trigger = different migraine for me.

Migraines triggered by weather changes have a loooong prodrome phase (vertigo, nausea, dizziness, depression, anxiety) and hit mainly in the jaw-temple area with sharp and intense pain

Attacks due to hormonal changes are instead announced by aches all over the body and they are mainly throbbing pain in the temple/forehead

Migraines triggered by food have no real prodrome phase but they beging with a heavy head and a pounding pain all over the head and they cause the worst nausea ever.

Strangely - only since being pregnant. Which suggests that migraines-without-aura are hormone related (for me) and migraines-with-aura are triggered by something else.

I've had auras for so long it took me a stupidly long time to work out I was having migraines without them! Duhhhh!

Well here I go again. They are pretty much all the same.
Just pain. Either side of the head and it can shift at random it seems. No aura, no warning, no nothing just a LOT of pain.

Started with hormones. No other factors identified. So I guess could still be.

I always seem to be the different one....Hmmm Rolling Eyes
